Add to My HeroesAnthony Millison
Sergeant Anthony Millison was killed when he fell from the Thornton-Blue Island Overpass on I-57 in Dixmoor while assisting at the scene of an accident.
The overpass was extremely icy due to inclement weather. He was responding to another accident on the overpass when his vehicle slid on the ice and crashed into a barrier. Despite being injured, he began tending to other motorists who had also crashed. As he assisted the motorists, he noticed another vehicle sliding toward him. He attempted to jump out of the way by holding onto the overpass rail but fell to the concrete 47 feet below.
He was transported to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Sergeant Millison was a U.S. Air Force veteran and had served with the Illinois State Police for 10 years. He had previously served with the Illinois Department of Corrections for eight years. He is survived by his wife and son.
Trooper Millison was posthumously promoted to the rank of sergeant.

View all 32 ReflectionsI like Tony Millison was an Air Force veteran and when I met him we were both employed by the US Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prisons. During the time we were all looking to further our Law Enforcement careers by going to Illinois State Police or Chicago Police Department etc. I recall when we all went to take the ISP exam. Tony talked me into going. He followed it through to the end and was hired. I on the other hand decided to stay put with the BOP for 26 years until I retired. Tony and I used to ride to work together and if you knew him he had a sense of humor and was like able human being. On the day of his incident I had just passed through that point of I-57. When I found out days later I was devastated. He was a good friend that would give you the shirt off his back. I travel the memorial section with his name and I get a sinking feeling of loss in my gut. But at the same time I’m proud to have know him..
